KFC appoints Qengqe first-ever black African female GM

KFC, a leading Quick Service Restaurant has announced the appointment of its very first black female General Manager for Africa, Akhona Qengqe.
According to a statement by the company, Akhona Qengqe who is replacing outgoing GM Dhruv Kaul will take over the leadership from 1st April, 2023 as Dhruv Kaul moves to take up a new role as GM for KFC Pan Europe.
Akhona started her career with KFC in 2015 as Development Director and has since taken on roles in Human Resources as a leader for the company’s Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (EI&B) agenda, before taking on the role as Chief People Officer (CPO) for KFC Africa in 2020.
In partnership with the leadership team, she helped the Africa business navigate a global pandemic and invigorated development programs to enable the company lead high-performing people and culture.
Akhona’s leadership shadow can be felt across the entire KFC organization as a fierce advocate for gender parity and female empowerment through her work in creating and launching KFC’s global Community of Belonging (COB), SHINE.
