Huawei Partners SATA to drive ICT development

Huawei Technologies, a Chinese employee-owned telecoms and networking equipment manufacturer and Southern African Telecommunications Association (SATA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) development in Southern Africa.

Through the partnership, both parties will jointly work to enhance ICT literacy and capability, and ICT infrastructure development as well as share technical know-how for the continental development in Southern Africa.

Also, the MOU entails using ICT to coordinate the development of ICT networks and services in line with the socio-economic development programs of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

Mr Jacob Munodawafa, Executive Secretary and CEO of SATA said, “Our vision is to facilitate the building of a prosperous information society for the SADC region.

ICT development will drive tremendous transformation in different industries, and we are looking for partners that can work with us. Huawei has an active role and an ICT leader in over 170 countries must have a lot of global experience to share,”

He further said, “I appreciate the efforts that Huawei has been taking in ICT knowledge transfer and I am happy to have Huawei as a strategic partner to shape the ICT future of SADC together.”

The MOU was signed during the opening session of SATA’s 2nd Regional Customer Services, Quality of Service (QoS) and Billing 2015 conference which took place in Botswana.

Huawei Technologies, which reported revenues of US$4.498billion in 2014 and has operations in over 170 countries, has been partnering with excellent local operators in Africa to deliver the most innovative ICT solutions and services.
