Governor Fayemi commissions new headquarter complex of Ekiti State Water Corporation

In his quest to provide the people of Ekiti State with potable water supply and to ensure the sustenance and consolidation of the gains of the reform of the water sector, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the executive Governor of the state has commissioned a new headquarter complex of Ekiti State Water Corporation.
Speaking during the commissioning of the long awaited project, the governor expressed his gratitude, thanking the people of the state for their patience and support through the years.
His words: “This commissioning is indeed an auspicious one as we have all been waiting for this glorious day for a while. I can tell you boldly today that the waiting days are over. I congratulate and applaud you all for your tolerance and patience.”
According to Dr. Fayemi, infrastructure and industrial development is one of the pillars of his administration, hence the need for the various ongoing projects across the state. “This underscores the reason for the enormous and unwavering support given to the transformation of the water sector as evinced by the successful completion of all the projects embarked upon, under the reform.”
He added that the holistic intervention in the water sector commenced during his first tenure. “Before the expiration of my first term in 2014, we got an opportunity to reposition the water sector in the state through the THIRD NATIONAL URBAN WATER SECTOR REFORM PROJECT. As a responsive and responsible government, we put in everything required to ensure Ekiti State emerged as one of the three states that qualified for this magnificent project in Nigeria.”
The governor noted that the project is a World Bank assisted project that his administration keyed into for the benefit of his people.
“This is a World Bank assisted project that we keyed into, for the benefit of our people and by implication, the state was expected to make some counterpart fund contribution. The total credit facility of fifty million United States dollars (50m USD) was supported with the counterpart fund of nine hundred and eighty-six million, seven hundred thousand naira (n 986,700,000) only, by the Ekiti State government. Despite the little resources available for us as a State, we fulfilled our part in this multi-million Dollars project.”
The governor continued: “This was made possible by the irrevocable standing payment order given to the Federal Ministry of Finance to deduct from source on quarterly basis as our counterpart contribution throughout the period of the project. The effort was done during my first tenure to affirm our readiness and commitment to the tenets and success of the reform project.”
He assured all other towns that are yet to have access to potable water supply that they will get it in due course. “For the towns and communities that are yet to have access to potable water due to different reasons, the government is assiduously looking into this for appropriate intervention in due course.”
