Gemini, Google’s artificial intelligence (AI) assistant is going beyond just smartphones, coming to everyday tech devices like smartwatches, headphones and even cars before 2025 runs out.

The announcement was made on April 25 by its CEO, Sundar Pichai, at Alphabet’s Q1 2025 earnings call.

In his speech, he noted that the company is fully upgrading its Google Assistant to Gemini on mobile devices (as opposed to having both operate separately) and later this year, it will upgrade cars (running Android Auto) and other smart tech devices that connect with phones.

While no specific timeline of its rollout was given, speculations suggest that more details would be unveiled at the Google I/O Developer conference in May.

This move further demonstrates Google’s huge prioritization to integrate Gemini across its ecosystem in the last couple of years, as it had earlier introduced it to its suite of apps like Gmail, Drive, Google Photos and many more

This integration, building on a series of updates introduced to the AI assistant, such as Flash Thinking and Deep Research, is projected to enable more advanced voice commands, accelerate system responses, and broaden functionality across multiple devices.
