GOCOP inducts new members
At its sixth annual conference which held at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, GOCOP, inducted 13 new members.
The inductees included Mustapha Ogunsakin, publisher of Gavel International; Douglas Ogbodo, publisher, Energy Focus Report; Chuks Okonta, publisher, InspenOnline; Nkechi Naeche-Esezobor, publisher, Business Today online; Yemi Olowolabi, publisher, Presentng.com; Francis Ezem, publisher, Business and Transport; Haruna Salisu, publisher, WikkiTimes; and Ifeanyi Ejiofor, publisher, Alabingo.com.
Others were Akeem Lasisi, publisher, Phenomenal.com.ng; Musbau Rsaq, publisher, The Gazelle News; Tunde Abatan, publisher, New Dawn; Sufuyan Ojeifo, publisher, The Conclave; and Kemi Yesufu, publisher, Frontline News.
While congratulating and welcoming the new members into the fold, GOCOP President and Publisher of RealNews magazine, Maureen Chigo, in her welcome address, disclosed that more than 30 intending members applied and were screened; but only 13 satisfied all the association’s membership criteria. She added that with the latest inductees, membership of the Association had risen to 94.
Chigbo reiterated that GOCOP came into existence in 2014 as a peer review development and a self-regulating body for professionals and entrepreneurs in Nigeria’s online landscape; adding that the self-assigned task of the body had been helped by the fact that most of its members were once chief executives and senior editors of leading national media outfits before establishing their individual online media outfits. She therefore enjoined the new members to hold the flag of the association aloft and conduct their practice and business in accordance with the association’s rules and regulations and in keeping with the laws of the land.
On hand to deliver the Keynote address on the Conference theme, “2023 Elections: Managing the Process for Credible Outcome”’ was Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu; while a former Inspector General of Police, IGP, Dr. Solomon Arase and Dr. Chichi Aniagolu-Okoye of Ford Foundation were Panelists.
