GAT operations has cut MMA2’s revenue by over 50% says Bi-Courtney
The management of Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL) has said that the operations of the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has reduced its revenue at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2) by over 50%.
Managing Director of Bi-Courtney Captain Jari Williams said that FAAN had disregarded the concession agreement entered into by both parties with regards to the redevelopment and continued operations of GAT terminal, which is in contravention of the exclusivity clause in the agreement.
Williams said ”The GAT operations have in fact reduced by more than 50% the revenue expectations of MMA2, which was projected to process four (4) million passengers annually”
He further added that the incursion of FAAN into operating the GAT terminal has drastically affected the operations of Bi-Courtney by making it impossible for it to pay back its huge indebtedness within the approved operations phase of the concession agreement.
Williams stressed that FAAN had consistently failed to comply with the several court judgments, recommendations of the arbitration committee as well as various consultants which is a high disregard for the rule of law.
He said ”FAAN should be prevailed upon to comply with the laws of Nigeria, various court rulings and arbitration proceedings and recommendations regarding the concession agreement”
“The Federal Government of Nigeria and FAAN should be encouraged to facilitate the commencement of Regional flights for which approval had previously been granted under two different administrations in order to reduce the cost of airlines’ operations and enhance passengers experience for which Bi Courtney Aviation Services Limited has undertaken huge expenses to meet the standard requirements “Williams added.
