Friends serenade Chuddy Oduenyi on birthday
It was an outpouring of encomiums as Chief Chuddy Oduenyi, Managing Director, Compact Communications turned a year older on April 27, 2021. The marketing communications guru was celebrated by friends and well-wishers who seized the opportunity to edify and speak glowingly of him. One of his close friends, Chido Nwakanma, descried him as “one of the significant players in the Nigerian Integrated marketing communication industry”.
Speaking about the man’s simplicity, Nwakanma said Oduenyi is low-key yet plays in the top league both in billings and client base.
He went on: “An eclectic mind, poet, and philosopher, Oduenyi has won several awards & recognitions. The Faculty of Arts University of Nigeria honoured him in June 2013 with a Leadership Award as a Man of Integrity and Exemplary Leadership.”
MARKETING EDGE adjudged him the PR Personality of the Decade in June 2018. He is a Knight of The Order of Saint Mulumba (KSM) of the Catholic Church.
“The personable Chuddy is a friend indeed. He takes his time, but this friend sticks closer than a brother when he identifies as such. The family of the recently departed Jimanze Ego-Alowes can testify. He stood with them all the way,” Nwakanma added.
On his contribution to the industry, Nwakanma said: “Oduenyi contributes in every way to the development of the industry. He served on the Adjunct Faculty at the School of Media & Communication, Pan Atlantic University. He serves the Public Relations Consultants Association of Nigeria in technical roles that require precision and integrity.”
Chuddy Oduenyi was, before floating Compact Communications, into the pen pushing profession as an Advert Manager at Vanguard Media, Special Projects Editor and Promotions Manager where he conceived, marketed and published big projects like 50 Prime Movers in Corporate Nigeria and 40 Nigerian Leaders of the Future. He marched from pen pushing into ideation by joining The Quadrant Company where he honed his skills in client relationship management as well as writing, creative and event management.
Now a master of communication and ideation, Chuddy has left his indelible footprints on both industries especially in IMC where his creative spirit has found a home.
A graduate of History from the University of Calabar, Oduenyi would not be content with educational pursuit until he acquired other qualifications in mass communication, marketing, and management.
The cerebral writer flavours his essays with gems from antiquity to the present. He is a titled man, evident only in the quiet dignity with which he carries himself. Indeed, he holds double titles: Ogbunaechendo in Aku in Igbo-Etiti LGA of Enugu State and the revered chieftaincy title of Agunaechemba of Oko in Orumba North LGA of Anambra State.
Dahiru Ali, a friend across the Niger, has this to say about the celebrant: “My encounter with the great guy was brief and years back. But the memory lingers. Chuddy speaks a few words then pierces through your brain and heart with this laser look that makes you answer questions he didn’t ask. Then he melts a smile that makes you feel commended. He is a gifted communicator. Happy birthday friend!”
