APRA confers Association’s Fellowship Member on Akinwunmi Adeshina

Akinwunmi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank, has been honoured with the reputable Fellowship by the Africa Public Relations Association (APRA). The conferment was one of the high points of the recently concluded APRA 2021 virtual conference.
Adesina, who delivered the keynote paper during the conference was conferred with the highest membership category of the Association by Yomi Badejo-Okusanya, President, APRA and one of the foremost PR practitioners in Africa.
While announcing the conferment, Okusanya said: “With the permission of Council members and support of the entire association, it is my pleasure to confer on you, the Honorary Fellowship of APRA. As from today, you are entitled to all the privileges that come with being a Fellow of the Association and we will appreciate it if this becomes part of your profile and we look forward to working with you in using the PR profession to further market and develop Africa. We will work together with your office at a convenient date when we can come to Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire to do the investiture.”
In his response, the President of the African development Bank expressed his appreciation of the honour done him by the Association and promised to be a good ambassador of the professional Association. “I am honoured to be conferred with the Fellowship member of APRA. I will continue to work with you. I will be glad and look forward to receiving you in Abidjan.”
Earlier in his keynote address, Adesina emphasised the need to curate positive narratives for Africa, and institutions in Africa citing this as an intrinsic avenue to actualize Agenda 2063 of the Africa Union.
“There are great stories to be told about Africa, our beloved continent. We need you as partners in public relations and the media to help curate and disseminate Africa’s success stories. This is the path towards the actualisation of the Africa we want as set out in agenda 2063 of the African Union.
“Your role is critical, and I’m proud to say the African Development Bank itself produces news stories and press releases about Africa’s progresses in creating better opportunities for its people,” Adeshina stated.
He promised that the African Development Bank will partner with the African Public Relations Association (APRA) to promulgate positive African stories of progress, resilience and steadfastness as a people to propel the continent to the forefront of global competitiveness.
“The African Development Bank will initiate a new strategic partnership with the African Public Relations Association so that you can help to weave stories of resilience of a continent progressing against all odds together – determined, resolute, undeterred and spurred on by the sound of our progress. Let us create narratives that inspire and propel Africa. Africa’s future is bright. Let’s spread the good news,” he concluded.
