Access Bank introduces virtual edition for Lagos City Marathon
Access Bank has announced 9-11th April, 2021 for the sixth edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon. The financial institution will also be limiting the participants to a 300 elite-only runners from across the world so as to stay within the Covid-19 protocols.
Access Bank announced: “Access Bank Lagos City Marathon 2021 10km race is going virtual. Now you can participate in the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon 2021 10km race from anywhere you are in the world. As a financial institution, our aim is to provide world-class financial services to our customers. But we are also committed to impacting lives positively. For this reason, we have continued to sponsor the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.”
Bukola Olopade, Chief Executive Officer of Nilayo Sports Management Limited stated: “I am thrilled to announce that we have commenced registration for the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon virtual 10km race, we completely understand that our runners who come in their thousands to participate yearly will miss the thrill of the event, this is why we have put together the virtual 10km race so that runners can still experience the camaraderie and health and wellness benefits running provides.”
Runners can participate by signing up for the virtual 10km on Finerge by downloading the mobile app on Google Play or Appstore. Participants can complete the race within three days, 9th April 2021- 11th April 2021. Race Finishers will get a certificate to showcase their achievement. The app will use GPS tracking to track the race and calculate the distance covered till the 10km is achieved. E-certificates will be automatically generated when the race is complete.
According to Access Bank, the Lagos Sports Commission will work with the Office of Lagos State Governor and security agencies to ensure that there is a curfew between 5 am and 10 am on race day; the race will be broadcast live on all television and multi-media channels to ensure people are not on the street to cheer runners, the organizers of the London Marathon adopted a similar approach; all members of the workforce, including volunteers and other auxiliary workers, will undergo a compulsory Covid-19 test; apart from the top three winners, all other runners will pick their medals at the Marathon Office on designated dates to prevent crowding.
