FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria said it is partnering with the Nigerian Red Cross on a nutrition intervention for displaced children in Internally Displaced Person (IDP) camps in Yola, Adamawa state.

This programme, according to a statement, seeks to benefit over 1,700 children from ages 5 upwards, to help reduce concerns of malnutrition in the camp.

By this intervention programme, FrieslandCampina WAMCO, makers of milk brand – Peak, will donate about 20,000 cartons of milk worth over a hundred million naira to support the planned intervention for the period of August to October. The Nigerian Red Cross Society will be responsible for the efficient delivery and evaluation of this project.

This initiative, the statement added, will also be extended to mothers living in IDP camps in North East Nigeria to support their nutritional well-being; as they form part of the vulnerable group.

According to Managing Director of FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria, Rahul Colaco, “We believe in integrating CSR into our business philosophy, hence, this project ties in well with our mission of nourishing Nigeria with quality dairy nutrition. This includes 3 pillars, part of which covers our social responsibility to care for people and the community in which we operate in. More so, we understand that inadequate nutrition can endanger the proper development of children that is why we are driving this initiative to enable these families and help in the mental and physical development of the children.”

Corporate Affairs Director, Ore Famurewa noted that “through this project, employees of FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria will support the #payitforward campaign launched by the Peak brand to inspire the act of kindness amongst Nigerians through giving.” In this regard, employees are sending non-cash gift items to be distributed at the IDP camps.

“FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria is partnering with The Nigerian Red Cross because of their large volunteer base, strong international support and experience in managing these kinds of social issues,” Famurewa added.
