Unilever Nigeria announces leadership transition, names Tobi Adeniyi as new MD

Unilever Nigeria Plc has unveiled Tobi Adeniyi as its next Managing Director, effective January 1, 2025. This leadership shift will see Adeniyi collaborate with the outgoing MD, Tim Kleinebenne, to ensure a smooth handover by the close of the year.

Adeniyi’s career at Unilever spans over a decade, beginning in 2009 as part of the Future Leaders Programme. Throughout his tenure, he has demonstrated expertise across various domains, including logistics, procurement, supply chain management, and commercial operations. His strategic initiatives have driven significant improvements in the company’s sales framework across Nigeria.

His international experience, gained from roles in Singapore, the Philippines, and Indonesia, has equipped him with a diverse perspective on market dynamics. He is also an active player in industry associations, holding positions with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria Export Promotion Group and the Institute of Directors.

Bolaji Balogun, Chairman of Unilever Nigeria, expressed confidence in Adeniyi’s ability to lead the company into its next phase of growth while also acknowledging Kleinebenne’s contributions to the company’s success during his tenure.

“We are optimistic about the future under his guidance. His wealth of experience and leadership acumen comes at a crucial time for our business.”

Ben Langat, Executive Vice President for Unilever East and West Africa, highlighted the significance of this transition as part of the company’s broader succession strategy.

“Tobi has a profound understanding of the Nigerian market, coupled with extensive international exposure. This makes him well-positioned to lead the company through its next chapter.”

He also extended gratitude to Kleinebenne for his 33 years of service with Unilever, during which he led operations across multiple regions, including Germany, the Caribbean, and West Africa.
