Ocare and team bring nourishment, compassion to Mushin residents

In a moving display of compassion and community spirit, the charity initiative Feed the Community brought warmth, food, and renewed hope to residents of Mushin, Lagos. The team of passionate volunteers visited Mushin Market recently, serving freshly prepared meals and reminding citizens that kindness still lives among us.

Known for their unique approach, the volunteers once again wore their signature superhero costumes, an embodiment of the everyday heroism that exists within ordinary people. The event was not just about feeding the hungry, but about building bonds, fostering unity, and igniting smiles across every corner of the community.

Blessing Oke, popularly known as Ocare the Everyday Superhero, shared the inspiration behind her mission to serve the underprivileged. Speaking with MARKETING EDGE, she said: “Feeding in the country is quite tough right now, so I took it upon myself to give this token out and see people enjoy at least a day of their lives in a month.”

Ocare added that the team makes it a point to visit different communities monthly in order to widen their reach and ensure more lives are touched. “Every month we go to different communities, not just one community. Next time you won’t see us in Mushin, we will be going somewhere else,” she noted.

Another volunteer, Ladyvee, shared her motivation: past experiences of hardship and receiving help from unexpected sources had inspired her to give back. “It planted a seed in me. I knew I had to give that feeling to someone else,” she said.

Residents of Mushin were full of appreciation and gratitude. Olamide, who was visiting from Bariga, said, “I am very thankful for this kind gesture, thank you very much.” Tolani, a local from Olufumilayo Street, added, “I like it and would love to join next time.” Mr Lukman also commented, “It is a good gesture to do charity; it is a way of sharing love.” Mr Adebowale described the effort as “a rare act, especially in an economically challenging environment,” while young Darasimi simply said, “She is very happy,” as she smiled alongside her mother at the event.

But Feed the Community is not just about food. It is about dignity. It is about reminding people they are seen, valued, and worthy of care. These events serve as more than relief; they spark hope.
