OAAN concludes constitution review
A new dawn may have come for the Outdoor Advertising Association of Nigeria (OAAN), as the organisation has concluded its long awaited constitutional amendment.
The amendment which has been in the works for over two years is expected to sanitise the Out-of-Home (OOH) industry in Nigeria and reposition it in line with modern trends in the global outdoor business.
The amended constitution was unveiled at the OAAN’s recently held Annual General Meeting of the association in Calabar, after it was presented for adoption.
” We have have been working on how we can amend our constitution for over two years, so as to ensure that our association operates in line with current trends and remain in touch with events as they unfold. I say a big thank you to all those who made it happen,” Tunde Adedoyin, President of the association said.
One of the key issues that was addressed by the amendment was membership eligibility. This became imperative following complaints about the proliferation of outdoor agencies around the country and the rise in the number of unregistered operators.
Following the adoption of the amended constitution, a new certficate of membership has now been issued to financial members, and non financial members are thus automatically delisted from the association. The President has said that the amendment was a strong statement by the association about its intentions to sanitise the industry and restore discipline and professionalism in the body.
This move is coming shortly after Chairman of Troyka Group, Biodun Shobanjo lampooned the OOH operators for making the industry an all comers affair as a result of the low entry criteria set by the body.
Shobanjo who spoke at the 10th Annual Posters Awards in Lagos, noted that except the indutry repositions in line with the realities of the global OOH market, then it will continue to be bullied upon by government regulators.
