NIPR FCT Chapter inaugurates new Exco

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), FCT Chapter, has sworn in new executive members to run its affairs for the next two years. The election took place during the chapter’s 2021 AGM/conference at Sheraton Hotel & Tower, Abuja, with the theme, “Harnessing Diversity for Nation Building: The Public Relations Perspective”.
The new elected executive members include Maryam M. Sanusi as the Chairman, Stanley A. Ogadigbo, Vice Chairman, kelechi Anyanwu, Secretary, Ahyenopwa Tanyishi Assistant Secretary, Inimfon Etuk, PRO, Chiamaka Obi-Okafor, Financial Secretary, James Odey Treasurer, Ayodeji John, Auditor, HRH. DR. Tayo Haastrup, Ex officio I, DR. Tope Ojeme, Ex officio II, Lawal Yakubu Itopa, Ex officio III, Asiya Sulaiman Ex officio IV.
In a statement posted by the PRO on Instagram @niprabuja, he said the unopposed mandate by the chapter to the largely re-elected members of the outgone EXCO is testament to the progress the NIPR FCT Chapter has recorded over the past two years.
The statement read: “A special appreciation to some members of the outgone EXCO who successfully concluded their second tenure respectively.
“We thank our immediate past General Secretary, Mr. Austine Chijioke for his service, dedication and commitment to the Chapter in the tasking role of General Secretary.
“We also deeply appreciate our Ex-officio members, Fellow Chinwe Ogbuka and Mr. Muktar Tahir for their insight and service to the Chapter.
“We welcome the new tenure of leadership for our chapter and look forward to achieving greater feats together.
Speaking with MARKETING EDGE on the re-elected members, the immediate past General Secretary, Mr. Austine Chijioke said every contestant to any elective position is expected to hold the position for which he or she is elected into for the first term of two years.
“At the end of the first term, another round of election process is set in place and members would be asked to pick up nomination forms for the positions they are interested in. At the end of the day forms are picked and submitted during which no one knows who is interested in whichever position.”
“If no one has decided to pick up a nomination form to challenge any officer, the officer remains unopposed when the contest is declared open.”
He continued: “In NIPR FCT Chapter, we operate a very transparent process. We don’t change a winning team. If members feel strongly that an Exco in place has performed, it is only ideal that they are allowed to consolidate for another two years after which any member who has served in a particular position will be constitutionally barred from seeking a return to the same position for a 3rd term. However, any member who has served in the Exco and is still interested in serving can seek another position.
“For instance, I started serving as a member of the Exco 12 years ago. I served four years as a Provost before switching position to the Assistant General Secretary for another four years after which I ran for the position of the General Secretary which I served out on the 11th of November, 2021. At that level of the General Secretary, I can only go forward to either the position of Vice Chair or Chairman.”
“The Re-elected members of the Executive have performed well and have only served one term. They are therefore eligible for re-election into the same positions,” he asserted.
