Nigerian Breweries hosts free webinar to support unemployed graduates amid Covid-19
Foremost brewer, Nigerian Breweries Plc, is organising a webinar to support Nigeria’s teeming unemployed graduates in the wake of the Covid-19 global pandemic. This initiative is in line with its corporate social responsibility and a mark of its support for the Nigerian economy.
The virtual session themed: “EMPLOYABILITY POST COVID-19: STRATEGIES FOR STAYING RELEVANT” will hold by 12:00pm-1:30pm on Friday, September 18, 2020.
Prior to the outbreak of the global pandemic, Nigerian graduates have had to battle with the problem of unemployment as hundreds of thousands of graduates were being churned out every year with a few companies to absorb them. For many employers it was a problem of the employability of many of these graduates owing to deficit in the requisite skills to work in the corporate world.
The situation became worse after the outbreak of Covid-19 as the capacity of companies to recruit fresh graduate reduced due to declining revenue and the need to reduce costs by such companies. Writing on its LinkedIn page, NB Plc reiterated the essence and value of the upcoming web event:
“To be relevant in the Post-Covid era, a graduate will need to re-invent the wheel as part of the winning strategies in the labour market,” the top brewer noted.
Recall that recently, National Bureau of Statistics (NBS)said Nigeria’s unemployment stood at 27.1% for the second quarter of 2020, indicating that about 21,764,614 (21.7 million) Nigerians remain unemployed. Meanwhile, a large percentage of the unemployed population is graduates.
