Nigeria Institute of Marketing sets agenda for AGM’s election
The election of Nigeria Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) slated for November this year will feature only two positions, the first and second vice presidents.
The election for the two principal officers of the professional body is expected to hold as part of the activities of this year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the body, holding between November 27 to 28 in Enugu State.
Addressing the media on the election at the NIMN secretariat in Lagos, the chairman of the Electoral Committee, Chidi Nwankpa said the election becomes necessary as the two offices shall be vacant at the next AGM in line with the NIMN Act 2003 section 1, subsection 2.
“In line with the time table of the election, the calls for nomination will be on September 21, while nomination will close on October 20, exactly a month, to enable members scrutinize the candidates and ensures that they are voting right at the election”, he said.
The nominee’s position statements are however expected to be mailed to members between October 26 to November 20, while the Manifesto night holds on November 27, just a day before the election.
According to the committee, the candidates for the two positions must have been a Fellow of the institute for a minimum of ten years to be eligible to contest the election.
The chairman explained further that all nominees for the positions must have paid all dues and levies up to the time of their nominations, while each nominee for the two positions must equally have two sponsors, who must have paid al dues and levies up to the time of sponsoring the candidates.
He added that nominations for both position must include a statement for both position must include a statement of not more than 500 words from the nominee saying who he/she is, what contributions he/she has made to the Institute and his/her vision of the institute.
“Election is by secret ballot, voters are expected to cast their vote once for preferred candidate for each of the positions, while the candidate with the most number of votes for each of the two positions shall be declared winner”, he said.
Nwakpa, who stated that the Council’s principal officers had two years tenure and the council officers a three-year tenure, noted that the office of the president, though a principal officer, would not be vacant until next year.
