Micheal Roth retires as IPG chairman

Executive Chairman, Interpublic Group, Micheal Roth is set to retire from the company and Board of Directors on December 31, 2021.

Roth, who has served as the Executive Chairman for nearly two decades will be handing over to David Thomas who has been elected to serve as non-executive Chair of the Board, effective January 1, 2022.

“My time as chairman and CEO of IPG has been a tremendous privilege. I am most proud of the work we have done to help shine a light on equity and inclusion, as well as being a values and purpose-driven enterprise,” Roth said.

Roth was chairman and CEO of IPG for 15 years. Prior to joining IPG, Roth was chairman and CEO of financial services holding company The MONY Group.

David Thomas thanked Roth for his nearly 20 years of service to IPG, he said: “His leadership has been instrumental in making IPG the advertising sector’s top-performing company across a range of key financial and operational metrics. I look forward to working with Krakowsky and my fellow board members to continue building on our successes, working together to create long-term value for our stakeholders,” he added.

IPG’s decision to appoint a non-executive chairman is expected to win the approval of shareholder advisory groups, which prefer a chair to be independent, rather than hold executive responsibilities, in the interests of corporate governance.
