Maltina dangles N6 million for best teacher
National winner of this year “Maltina Teacher of the Year Award” will be making N6 million as the total package and overseas training.
The winner will also enrich the school he or she has emerged with a N25 million project, the Corporate Affairs Adviser for Maltina Mr. Kufre Ekanem has said.
He disclosed this in a statement made available to Market Edge, adding that the eventual national winner of the award will get N1 million and another N1 million will be paid into his or her account annually for five years while he will also enjoy further training abroad at the expense of Maltina.
“A N25 million project will be implemented for the school from which he or she emerges. The runners-up, will grab N750, 000, while winners from 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT will be given N500, 000 each,” the statement read.
Meanwhile Nigeria Breweries Plc, said it has extended the entries’ deadline for the Maltina Teachers of the Year Award from Tuesday, 30th June, 2015 to 24h July, 2015 in order to accommodate more teachers.
Maltina Teachers Award 2015 is an initiative by Maltina, being produced by Nigeria Breweries Plc, to reward Nigerian teachers and to restore the pride and dignity of the teaching profession.
The award launched by Maltina, a non-profit project, is a citizen project to give back to the society and solely aimed in celebrating exceptional Teachers in Nigeria. The award is open to all teachers in public secondary schools in Nigeria.
Kufre Ekanem, Corporate Affairs Adviser, Maltina, said at a press briefing in Lagos recently that the collection of application forms which was opened on Wednesday, 20th May, 2015, was to end on Tuesday, 30th June, 2015, has been extended to Friday, 24th of July, 2015, based on appeal by teachers for more time to file their entries.
He advised interested teachers to download the application forms from the Maltina website and upload to the site or return via the company’s post office mail box.
Ekanem said, “all applications will be subjected to an intense selection and judging process by an external and independent panel of judges which has been constituted to ensure transparency, credibility and objectivity of the exercise. The five-step evaluation process of the entries received will result in 36 states and FCT champions, from among which the Maltina Teacher of the Year will emerge.
“The state champions and national winner will be celebrated in a grand ceremony on Monday, October 5th, 2015, a day set aside by the United Nations to mark the World Teachers Day.
“We hope that through this initiative, we can inspire the nation to accord our teachers their deserved credit and bring back respect to the teaching profession in Nigeria.”
Emete Tonukari, CSR and Sustainability Manager, Maltina said people were scared from teaching profession because of the saying that teachers’ reward is in heaven.
“We want to make teaching inspirational to encourage more people to come into teaching and to appreciate those in teaching profession because if education collapses the nation will collapse too.”
