Instagram, a free photo and video sharing app has been projected to surpass 1.65 billion users by 2029.

According to the latest report released by OnlyAccounts.io, the social networking app will remain the fastest growing social media platform by the end of 2029, with over 1.65 billion subscribers.

The data further shows that Instagram has maintained impressive growth four years after reaching the coveted one-billion-user milestone in the social media space.

This was said to have been largely due to its engaging features such as Stories, Reels, and Shoppable posts which make the platform outpaced the like of TikTok in becoming the fastest-growing social media app.

While Instagram’s user base is expected to grow by 250 million, or 17%, over the next five years, the report indicates that TikTok is projected to grow by 12% within the same period. This will solidify the photo and video app’s position as a leader, even as TikTok continues to hold sway in certain demographics.

Other social media platforms such as Facebook, Snapchat, and LinkedIn are also witnessing growth, with Facebook expected to add 480 million new users by 2029. Meanwhile, Snapchat is projected to grow by 15%, adding 95 million new users, trailing Instagram in overall growth potential.

According to the 2024 Digital Global Statshot Report, Instagram is not only leading in new users but also in engagement. The report reveals that Android users now spend almost 17 hours per month on the app, four hours more than last year.

This reportedly makes Instagram the fourth most time-consuming social media platform, with TikTok maintaining the top spot at over 31 hours per month per user.
