FIFA speaks on stadium tragedy in Indonesia

Now recognized as the world’s deadliest stadium disaster of all time, FIFA President, Gianni Infantino has also described the football incident which left over 120 people dead, and others injured as a “tragedy beyond comprehension”.
The chaos erupted after a match between two of Indonesia’s biggest soccer teams Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya at the Kanjuruhan Stadium had resulted in a clash; supporters of the losing team then invaded the pitch, leading to a tragic soccer stadium stampede.
According to the Indonesian authorities, more than 300 people were injured, with fears that the death toll could rise.
Infantino said: “Together with FIFA and the global football community, all our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, those who have been injured, together with the people of the Republic of Indonesia, the Asian Football Confederation, the Indonesian Football Association, and the Indonesian Football League, at this difficult time.”
