FG upgrades airports to boost tourism
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has disclosed that facilities at the airports would handle about 24 million passengers per annum at the completion of the four major international airport terminals across the country.
When completed, apart from enhancing the movement of passengers, the airports will create a good image of Nigeria and bring in the much needed foreign direct investments, especially in the tourism sector in the country which has large prospect for growth.
China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) had pledged to deliver the four international airport terminals which are under construction in 20 months’ time.
General Manager Public Affairs, FAAN, Mr. Yakubu Dati who disclosed this to MARKETING EDGE said that upon completion of the airport terminals, the passenger traffic will jump from 15 million passengers to 24 million passengers on a yearly bases.
Mr. Dati pointed out that when the four international airport terminals are completed, it will create avenue for businesses to thrive as well as help the agency to provide better capacity in terms of passenger facilitation for all kinds of people.
He said “When the four major international airport terminals are completed, we will have better capacity for passenger facilitation and we will also be able to have modern facilities that will take care of the physically disadvantaged people.
“We will have modern facilities like escalators, other things for children, others are the aged, special cases, every component of modern airport is inbuilt into that facility, so we are going to be at par internationally and that will make Nigeria take a proper place as a centre piece of aviation in Africa” he affirmed.
According to him, at the completion of the major airports, businesses will blossom rapidly as that will attract more advertisers to advertise their brands to their target customers at the airports.
