Airtel Nigeria reinforces tech inclusivity, launches Data Center

Airtel Nigeria Limited, a leading telecommunication company has unveiled its first data center in the country as part of its plans to drive technological inclusion and economic growth in Nigeria.
Speaking during a media parley at the state-of-the-art facility located at Muiz Banire Street, Lekki Phase 1, the Chief Executive Officer, C. Surendran disclosed that the initiative is aimed to deepen technological adoption by assisting businesses access reliable and affordable colocation and cloud services.
He said: “At Airtel, we believe that we can always support entrepreneurs in Nigeria by providing the enabling environment, platform, architecture, acceptance and business. Airtel is also passionate about finding, driving and providing digital inclusion. Digital inclusion is at the heart of all strategies and we believe that data centers are critical to digitising and empowering businesses. It is our hope that the launch of this Lagos data center today will enable more businesses to go digital and existing businesses will boost their cybers and data at a higher level and have a secured data center. Lagos state is a hub and a commercial nerve center of Nigeria so, a data center in Lagos is another confirmation to our commitment to the growth of the state”.
The Airtel CEO who assured that the new data center will contribute immensely to the growth of the state and nation thanked the Lagos State government under the leadership of Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the continued support to Airtel Nigeria.
On his part, Hon. Hakeem Fahm, Commissioner for Science and Technology who represented the governor at the occasion, lauded the leading Smartphone network for its continued trust and confidence in investing and creating job opportunities in the state while assuring a more conducive and enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
“We will not stop here, we are going to continue. Part of the growth depends on the availability and enabling environment for technology. The data center is a critical component to providing core location services as well as cloud services. This will lower the barrier of entry to the tech-market, because there is no need to invest in hardware, power, all you need to do is to save your server and data centers and services to be consume”, he said.
Ogo Afoamata, Enterprise Director, Airtel Business, while assuring that the data center is highly secured elaborated on the differences among the various tiers such as the tier1-3 certified data centers.
She said: “It is really about power, cooling, redundancy and security for your data. You need direct power to ensure constant cooling for the server to avoid irredeemable power surge. Security is important and it is not just physical security, it also involves cyber security as well”.
The Highlight of the event was the official unveiling of the state-of-the-art facility.
