FirstBank marks World’s AIDS Day

To support the global advocacy on Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), First Bank Nigeria Limited has joined millions of people around the world to mark World AIDS Day.

Commenting on the annual event on its LinkedIn page, FirstBank stated: “The World AIDS Day theme for the 2020 observance is “Global solidarity, shared responsibility”. Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something. Together, we can create a world where unawareness and preconception stops fueling the spread of a preventable disease. It is our individual responsibility to rally for “global solidarity” to overcome the virus.”

Speaking on this year’s World AIDS Day, World Health Organization (WHO) noted the imperatives of Covid-19 global pandemic on HIV services. The global health body urged global solidarity to fight the scourge of the disease.

“WHO is calling on global leaders and citizens to rally for “global solidarity” to maintain essential HIV services during COVID 19 and beyond and to ensure continued provision of HIV services for children, adolescents and populations mostly at risk to the disease. The Organization also calls on countries to provide health workers with greater protection and support so they can continue their work safely during the pandemic. Protecting people from HIV during the pandemic, and ensuring they can maintain treatment, is critical”.

World AIDS Day is usually marked every 1 December.
