Wales International Schools, knowledge powerhouse with cutting edge facilities

This above magnetic quote by Plato, an ancient Greece philosopher of the classical period, can be said to have inspired the birth of Wales International Schools on the 9th of September, 2013. Since them, the yearning to mould and raise the next generation of great minds through sound and qualitative education has not abated in the administrators of the institution.

Wales International Schools is a government approved co-educational school and a knowledge powerhouse with cutting edge facilities. The school, which is well equipped with the latest instructional tools and facilities, is strategically situated in the cool ambience of the gateway state, at number 3-5 Unity Close, off Poweline, Aseese, Ibafo on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State, Nigeria.

Wales International Schools run Crèche, primary, junior and senior secondary schools respectively, but in different premises.

To avert some of the rampant ugly stories associated with insecurity among private schools recently, the co-educational school has moved the dial of its security further by the use of an improved camera technology to monitor movements within and outside its premises with digital security devices such as CCTV system. It also carries out sensitization exercise among its staff, as well as collaborates with parents through a programme called the parenting seminar, where the school interacts with the parents and expose them to the intricacies of security through the parents-teachers conference (PTC).

Speaking with MARKETING EDGE, Adewale Aderibigbe, Principal of Wales International Schools, revealed some of the efforts made by the citadel of learning in providing an impenetrable security for the entire schools.

“We train our security operatives on how to watch out on student’s movement during school hours and prep period, to ensure that every one is safe. After school hours, they man the gate with the help of a tag, which every parent presents before picking up any child out of the school. If a stranger is sent to pick up a child, he will also present the tag and we also carry out an investigative inquiry to ascertain if the parents are aware before releasing the child out to the person,” he said.

Provision of high-tech laboratory

To the centre of knowledge and learning, it’s all about exploring the world of science and interacting with technology through the provision of high tech school laboratory aimed at preparing the students for the high-tech work world. This is to enable them unleash their imaginations on projects of their own invention. With a school like Wales, students can easily choose a career path, either in science, business or art.

The school is equipped with a standard laboratory for physics, biology and chemistry that can take up to 30 students at a go.  Its laboratory is an approved facility by the National Examination Council of Nigeria and West African Senior Secondary School Examination Council (WASSEC), having done its accreditation.

Academic Curriculum

Wales International operates a mixture or combination of both the Nigeria curriculum and the international standard. As a school that is all inclusive, the Aseese Ibafo based school has also boosted its curriculum with the inclusion of the British Curriculum. It looks forward to starting the IGCSE, Tofel and examination soon as well.

Wales International’ academic success

Over the years, the academic hub has recorded remarkable successes in its students’ academic performances both in its internal and external examinations. This is the outcome of the resilience and doggedness of the teachers, according to Mr. Akingbade, the Admin officer of the school.

“The last examination that was done, all the students recorded five credits in both Maths and English language just in one examination sitting. We organise extra learning periods for them, usually two hours after normal schools hours and even during weekends and this includes both day and boarding students, all aimed at producing academic excellence, and I can boldly and proudly say, our efforts have paid off. One of our students, Latifat Abdulganinu was the overall best student for JAMB in Ogun State three years ago. She is currently studying Economics in UI as a first-class student,” he said.

The management of the school intends to introduce the habit of every students residing in school during examination, just to encourage total concentration from students during the examination period. The school operates a very flexible system in its boarding by allowing boarders to go home on Fridays, spend the weekend at home and come back on Monday morning for those who want to.

Availability of modern library & Sick bay

There is also availability of modern library to assist student for research and academic references as well as a sick bay where students medical need are handled.

With qualified, dedicated and experienced teachers who have honed their skills overtime, Wales International has been able to maintain a track record of outstanding performance by setting the bar of academic excellence to 98%average pass in all the subjects while all the students got admitted into the universities of their choice the same year, without spending extra year for another sitting. Mr. Aderibigbe asserted that Wales Internationals Schools has been able to record huge success which is the outcome of employing qualified staff as teachers.

“We have qualified and experienced teachers. The least qualification you can get among them is degree. We don’t employ NCE not even for the primary level,” he said.

Extra Curriculum Activities

In addition to academic excellence, Wales International schools have carved a success pathway for itself through involvement of the school in extra curriculum activities. The student is exposed to an all-round development through various extra curriculum activities. This includes sports, life skills, etiquettes, swimming, money management, decoration, ICT and mentoring skills which is the school’s selling point. It hopes to include school farming, poultry and bakery soon according to the principal.

“Wales understands that there is an inherent talent and that every child is a star, so what it does is to help these children to discover their gifts and talents by organizing various in-house activities in their academic pursuit for excellence,” he said.

The school head proudly recalled some of the success stories recorded by the school.

“We have also participated and excelled in competitions such as the Cowpedia, powered by Cowbell milk, including a cooking competition organised by Redeemer’s Secondary School,” Mr. Aderibigbe revealed.

Existence of a strong PTA

The schools also have a very strong parent’s teachers association that meets once every term especially on Open Day, to chart path for the growth and development of both the school and students.
