Nigeria has secured $620 million for the Digital and Creative Enterprises (IDiCE) programme.
The 620 million dollars boost was confirmed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his nationwide broadcast on Sunday to address the ongoing hunger protest across the country.
According to the president, the funding will support several key programs, including the three million Technical Talents scheme.
The IDiCE program is designed to harness the potential of Nigeria’s burgeoning youth population by providing them with the skills and opportunities necessary to thrive in the global digital economy.
The initiative promises to be a significant driver of job creation and economic growth, with a focus on developing technical talents across various IT disciplines.
Tinubu said despite the program’s potential, it has faced setbacks. He decried the recent vandalization of the newly established digital centers in Kano by the #EndbadGovernanceinNigeria# protesters.
The president stressed that the destruction of the center is a significant blow to the programme’s efforts in providing accessible digital education and training to the region’s youth.
“This act of vandalism is a shame and a setback for our efforts to equip our young people with the skills they need for the future. However, we remain committed to our mission and will work tirelessly to ensure that such incidents do not deter our progress.” Tinubu said.
IDiCE is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering young people and creating millions of IT and technical jobs to boost global competitiveness.
The programme’s success will be crucial in positioning Nigeria as a hub for digital innovation and creativity, offering its youth a pathway to global competitiveness in the ever-evolving tech landscape.
