How REV agenda will foster creativity in the industry – AAAN President

By Oluwaseyi Lawal

The President of Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN), Mr Lanre Adisa, has revealed how The Rev Agenda will help to foster creativity in the advertising industry.

Speaking at LAIF & DIRECT instagram live session, the President of AAAN stated that the REV Agenda was not just a coinage but a summation of everything the association has always emphasized on.

He further explained that the REV acronym stands for “Recognition, Expansion and Value.” Speaking on recognition, he said, “Beyond our industry, we need to be respected for what we do. We’ve actually earned it by virtue of the businesses that we have built. There are brands that are over 60 years old that have benefited from advertising and they’ve gone beyond our shores.”

“There’s a whole lot that we need to do within ourselves as an industry that requires us to be deliberate to ensure that we we actually get the recognition that we deserve. We can offer leadership for West Africa. And as a matter of fact, the LAIF Awards platform is one of those platforms for recognition and the way it’s been structured is to be the barometer of creativity in West Africa. By virtue of that, we’re able to take our story to the rest of the continent and the rest of the world.”

Lanre Adisa further stated that “expansion in AAAN is important as there are agencies in the business who are not aware of the benefits of being a part of the association. He emphasized that value to the members of the association must be apparent.

“The review committee of the Constitution, allows for us to bring more people on board. We just need to be deliberate to find the right people. We’re not compromising on value or quality, but to bring them on board and make them feel a part of what we’re doing. We need fresher ideas and other ways of looking at things would be the best interest of our association.”

“Our mantra, ‘stronger together’, is not just a mantra. It is being stronger together within what we see as the advertising space today.”

Commenting on the association’s expectations for this year’s LAIF Awards, Mr Lanre Adisa stated that it would be good to see creatives do things differently this year.

In his submission, “Advertising from Nigeria need to be itself and reflect who we are but we should raise the bar even more and give it dignity. It is very important that’s what I would like to see. I would like to see work that would make us feel proud to be out there.”

Founded in 1973 as a sectorial body in the marketing industry, AAAN is the umbrella body that coordinates and promotes the interest of Advertising Agencies in Nigeria.
