Embrace experimentation, AI-powered personalization, and a balanced mix of digital and traditional strategies” — Martins

In 2024, brands reallocated budgets to digital marketing as a cost-saving measure, prioritizing performance-driven strategies over traditional campaigns. However, 2025 is shaping up to be the year of digital diversification.
With established platforms becoming increasingly saturated—and ad costs rising—brands are now looking beyond the usual suspects, shifting focus to emerging platforms and telco-driven ad solutions.
“With the popular digital spaces getting crowded, marketers will bet on newer platforms to stand out, engage younger audiences, and drive viral moments. I expect 2025 to reward brands willing to experiment with short-form engaging video content and hyper-local campaigns. I also expect to see more digital-led brands experiment with a bit of traditional media,” noted Stanislaus Martins, a renowned Marketing and Technology Expert.
Beyond platform diversification, these shifts also signal a deeper transformation in how brands approach engagement. Meanwhile, telco-backed ad solutions are gaining traction in African markets, offering direct, mobile-first access to consumers without the clutter of overcrowded social feeds.
Another significant shift is the return of digital-first brands to select traditional media channels—not as a retreat, but as a strategic complement to their online efforts. Digital out-of-home (DOOH) advertising, particularly digital billboards and transit ads, is seeing renewed investment as brands seek to create a seamless blend between online engagement and offline presence.
However, while platform diversification will be a key strategy in 2025, the real game-changer remains Artificial Intelligence.
“AI will continue to be the biggest force shaping 2025,” Martins continued. “I am probably sounding like a broken record, and you’ve all heard it too many times, but AI is already rewriting the rules. With innovations like China’s Deepseek gaining momentum and turning the ecosystem upside down, 2025 will see AI becoming even more embedded across industries. Businesses in Nigeria should adopt it strategically—starting with low-hanging fruit like automating workflows or analyzing customer data. Observe how global and local players use AI, then adapt it to solve specific challenges, or consult an expert in the space to guide your brand AI adoption. Ignoring it won’t be an option for any business that plans to stay competitive,” he added.
AI’s impact will be felt across content creation, audience segmentation, and campaign optimization. Brands that leverage AI-driven insights will gain a strategic edge—moving beyond generic digital ads to hyper-personalized, high-impact messaging. As automation becomes more sophisticated, businesses will shift from simple audience targeting to predictive analytics, allowing them to anticipate consumer behavior rather than react to it.
“This year, digital marketing will not be about merely existing on the right platforms—it will be about leveraging them intelligently. The brands that thrive will be those that embrace experimentation, AI-powered personalization, and a balanced mix of digital and traditional strategies to maintain relevance in an ever-evolving landscape,” Martins concluded.
