IMC leaders must prioritize talent management- Amobi

Funke Amobi, the deputy head of Operation at Stanbic IBTC Bank has charged leaders in the Integrated Marketing Communications industry to embed talent management as a core business capability.
While speaking at a summit held in Lagos recently, Mrs. Amobi highlighted the effectiveness of talent management in driving innovation, enhancing competitive advantage and ensuring sustainable growth in the IMC sector.
According to her, attracting, developing and retaining top talent is no longer a supplementary function but a strategic imperative. She stressed the need for organization to prioritize talent management as a way of adapting to changing market demands and technological advancements.
“IMC leaders must recognize that their people are their greatest assets. Investing in talent development not only boosts employee engagement and productivity but also fosters a culture of continuous learning and creativity,” she said.
Speaking further, Amobi who is an honorary professorial Fellow at the Lancaster University Management School and Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development, UK revealed that talent must be specifically defined in order not to miss one.
In her words: “In defining talent, you must understand the identity of who talent is, and you can identify talent at different stages within the organization. You must have a clear talent philosophy before you start building talent pipelines. You must address your business needs. You must address your strengths. You must have a strategic intent and ensure that you are able to deliver on that.”
The corporate amazon who underscored the role of leadership in setting the tone for talent management practices, advised IMC leaders to lead by example and demonstrate a commitment to their team’s growth and well-being.
She explained that leadership is about nurturing potential and inspiring excellence, noting that when leaders invest in their teams, they build a loyal, high-performing workforce that can propel the organization towards its goals.
She concluded her presentation by calling on the industry leaders to integrate talent management into their strategic planning and recognize it as a crucial component for long-term success and industry leadership.
